Bingo Love by Tee FranklinCategory: graphic novel

Bingo Love is a stunning graphic novel that was released in 2018, written by Tee Franklin. This story sweeps over decades of time, believes in family, and showcases the ability for everyone to find happiness. Hazel and Mari meet in 1963 at a church bingo game. Their love story is strong and moving, but due to pressures from their families they are separated and go on to live different lives. After 50 years apart, marriages, children, and grandchildren the women are fated to meet again at church bingo. The subsequent quest to discover what they want takes the reader on a beautiful journey full of communication, determination, and love.

This graphic novel tackles people and stories that are not normally featured in comics. There are people of color, people from the LGBTQ+ community, and women over the age of 60 in the central plot of the story. Through this action, the story at hand is vibrant and told from intimate perspectives. Writer Tee Franklin speaks to this and the power of comics and representation in this interview.  Franklin turned to Kickstarter to get the funding for this story, and the overwhelming support prompted her to turn to the public and ensure that she was creating a story that people wanted to read.
