Each year, the library hosts a Poetry Contest for grades K-12 to celebrate National Poetry Month, which is in April. Winners and honorable mentions are selected for grades K-2, 3-6, and 7-12. This year’s theme was “Who Am I?” A big thank you to Mrs. Claudia Wasserman for her generous donations to support the poetry contest and for selecting our winners! Below are our winners for Kindergarten through 2nd grade.

Nail Clippers

Nail Clippers, Nail Clippers,

I haven’t used all year.

Mommy would frown,

And say, Here’s a crown,

please trim them today my dear.

The thought of it makes me tear,

Because they go all the way up to my ear.

And if I turn them upside down,

Silly as it sounds, they go past my rear.

Daddy would like to use his tools,

Scissors, snips, dikes, or sheers?

Maybe a file, grinder or band saw is cool.

But sawzalls, and weed wackers I fear!

If I clipped them I would be able to write,

My quad I would be able to steer.

I would be able to play softball,

And mommy would cheer!

Nail Clippers, Nail Clippers.
