Marissa Bridge was one of those kids who started drawing at a very early age. That led to a childhood full of sketchpads, coloring books, paper dolls, paint-by-numbers kits, sewing, knitting, and art classes. Her strong and continued interest in art eventually led to her acceptance at Parsons School of Design n New York City, where she received a BFA degree. She participated in the Westhampton Free Library Studio Tour in 2018, and had a solo exhibition at the library in July, 2019. She currently lives in East Quogue, NY.
Bridge’s art is based on 15 years of studying flowers and plants. The subjects in her work have grown from austerely painted “portraits” of individual flowers to three-dimensional mixed media pieces that include trees and the Cosmos. Her idea is to create a unique work of art by re-imagining the parts of a particular subject. Most of the pieces begin with a base coat of indigo, rather than white. This color represents the earth, water, and the night sky, and inspires her to be creative.
Oil and acrylic paints and simple materials are the tools she uses. Working with paper, modeling paste, nails, q-tips, seeds, beads, etc., brings a playful feeling into her work. She gets a deep satisfaction in rediscovering making things from what’s at hand and readily available. And by reusing materials, she gives them a new sense of purpose by saving them from the trash bin. Every action a person makes, affects the world in some way.
Marissa hopes her art adds positive energy to the culture we live in, and inspires others to begin a creative journey of their own.
