I’m thrilled to share my experiences behind the lens, at my first photographic display at Westhampton Library this April 2022!
I was first introduced to the library through my mom, Juliana, the ‘Tea Lady’ who hosted the annual Christmas Holiday tea for many years. An avid photographer in her own right, viewing her photos as a child instilled in me a sense of awe at the beauty in nature, while I learned artistic composition.
My own photographic journey began 10 years ago, after the passing of my father and grandfather. With loss came also the unction to overcome grief through creativity. As I made things with my hands, my mind was kept busy, but it wasn’t until I picked up a camera that my soul found a way to truly breathe again.
Through the lens, my appreciation of nature grew more and more. The wind on water, reflections after a summer rain, droplets on a tender rose, or moody clouds in sunset drama. Moment by moment, I became a patient observer of light, and a new day in my photographic journey was dawning.
My color photography has been published and featured in Newsday’s Caring Calendar, whose proceeds benefit children and families in need, and I have ben a featured artist at other libraries on Long Island as well.
I chose black and white for the mood it conveys, intrigued at how it dramatizes yet simplifies the subject to essentials of shadow and form, light and dark. I invite the viewer to pause, study, reflect, and enjoy the moment.
I would like to thank each and every viewer for sharing in my passion!
