Podcast Theme of the Month – National LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
This month we are celebrating National LGBTQIA+ Pride Month which is a tribute to the Stonewall Riots of 1969 when Marsha P. Johnson threw “the shot glass that was heard around the world” responding to the New York City Public Morals Division police raid of the Stonewall Inn on June 28 of that year.
The Stonewall Riots are widely considered one of the most important events leading to the gay liberation movement and the twentieth-century fight for LGBTQIA+ rights in the United States.
Pride Month is celebrated every June in tribute to those involved in the Stonewall Riots.
For those who are wondering what LGBTQIA+ stands for, this acronym equates to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexual and Asexual. Sometimes, the Q stands for Questioning and the A stands for Ally.
