To help protect health professionals from the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, the Westhampton Free Library has donated its 3D printers to the Suffolk Cooperative Library System as part of a 3D printing farm initiative. All of the donated printers — 58 in total from area libraries — are being used to print face shields to help safeguard doctors and medical staff on the front lines. The printers, which have been online since March 30, can print up to 200 shields a day during two work shifts. “As soon as the call went out for printers, we knew we needed to offer our support,” said Westhampton Free Library Director Danielle Waskiewicz. “We are a community resource, and it was imperative that we do our part to assist in the effort.” All of the shields are being produced in conjunction with Stony Brook University’s iCreate program.
