The Westhampton Free Library is proud to announce that DeeDee Griner, project superintendent for the Library’s current renovation project, has won a Women’s Recognition Award. She was presented with the honor at the 33rd annual Women’s Recognition Awards Ceremony, sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven’s Division of Women’s Services, on March 21.

“DeeDee has pioneered the path for future women superintendents in construction,” said Library Director Danielle Waskiewicz. “She deserves this recognition for her hard work and dedication in an industry where her gender is not usually recognized as equal.”

Waskiewicz nominated Griner for the award after observing her impressive skills while working on the library’s project, which is overseen by a team of nine individuals, eight of whom are women.

Griner has 28 years of experience in the industry and currently works for Lipsky Construction Company in Bayport, where she serves as a project superintendent.

“In a profession that is made up of a 97 percent male workforce, DeeDee has always stood out as a powerful member of the team and in full control of any room she walks into,” said project manager Alex Lipsky. “Her ability to bring vast construction knowledge and apply it to new technologies sets her apart from many of her peers, who rely only on experience in an industry that is constantly changing. She is well-deserving of this recognition.”

The Library’s renovation project will result in the conversion of 2,500 square feet of unused space into usable space. The plan, which was designed after a series of community charrettes, includes an expansion of the children’s program room and a reconfiguration of the library’s main floor to accommodate a more efficient flow, additional book stacks and a quiet study room. The project is expected to be completed by June 2019.
