The Westhampton Free Library is proud to announce that Ann Nowak, 87, was honored as the Library’s fifth community hero during a ceremony at the Library’s regular board meeting on June 13. The 50-year Westhampton Beach resident was selected for the honor by the Library’s circulation department.
“Ann is a true example of a community hero,” said Library Director Danielle Waskiewicz. “We are thrilled to honor her.”
Ann worked for 15 years as a nurse at Westhampton Beach Elementary School. During that time, she raised her children and volunteered as an EMT with the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance Association. She also volunteered at Peconic Bay Medical Center and worked at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Now retired, she spends her time visiting the Library and reading British mysteries. She also enjoys crafts and knitting. This past winter, she knitted scarves for every Library employee.
“She is one of our most valued patrons,” said Jan Camarada, head of the Library’s circulation department.
The Library’s yearlong Community Hero recognition program pays tribute to community members who embody the spirit of giving. The honorees are celebrated at the Library board’s monthly meetings.
